BBC Revives Big Break With Stephen Hendry and Paddy McGuinness

The BBC is bringing back the iconic snooker entertainment show Big Break more than two decades after it last aired, with snooker legend Stephen Hendry and television presenter Paddy McGuinness leading the new series.

Set to air on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer, the reboot aims to combine classic elements of the original programme with updated production and a more modern feel. The series will feature 20 half-hour episodes, with contestants competing in a mix of snooker challenges, trick shots and fast-paced games for cash prizes.

Seven-time world champion Hendry will take on the trick-shot role previously made famous by the late John Virgo, while McGuinness steps into the hosting position. The pair say the new version will keep the humour and energy that made the original series a fan favourite throughout the 1990s and early 2000s.

The revival comes amid growing nostalgia for classic television formats, following the successful return of shows such as Gladiators and Bullseye. BBC executives believe Big Break can once again appeal to both longtime fans and a younger audience discovering the format for the first time.

The refreshed production will also introduce new camera technology and enhanced viewing angles designed to bring audiences closer to the action. Professional snooker players will join contestants throughout the competition, continuing a tradition that helped make the original series so distinctive.

Hendry said he hopes the show will inspire a new generation of snooker players, while McGuinness described joining the programme as a “dream” given its place in British television history.
